ACE Club Promotes Awareness and Empowerment

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and struggles to maintain stable mental health, Emma Hong (‘ 23) created ACE, a club at Del Norte High School, to provide a safe place where subjects like mental health can be discussed and where goals can become reality.

“I want to help people feel more comfortable and gain confidence in speaking up for what they believe in,” says Hong. ACE stands for awareness, community, and empowerment. Through discussions, members learn more themselves, educate others, and shed light on sensitive topics. Hong hopes to bring awareness into the community about the recent events happening around the world and highlight the positives in our community.

The club’s main goal is to raise awareness on topics like mental health and gender equality while also empowering others to speak up. Hong was inspired to create ACE by her family and friends when they emphasized that no club at Del Norte truly empowers the community.

“I think there are so many great clubs at Del Norte, but what I think may set us apart is the freedom we give our club members to explore topics of empowerment, and create fundraisers that are important to a cause they are passionate about,” Hong says.
