Team Optix 3749, Del Norte’s robotics team, builds a robot from scratch each year to compete in exciting new challenges against other teams from across the United States as part of the FRC competition. However, Optix isn’t only focused on competing in robotics challenges but also on helping the community. This is handled by the Outreach department of Team Optix.
On Saturday December 9th, 2023, the Outreach department, with help from FTC team 22105 Runtime Terror, held an FTC (First Technical Challenge) competition at Del Norte. Though the event was set to be held in November, it was delayed to December due to scheduling conflicts. In previous events, the Outreach department has volunteered with their community by collaborating with fellow robotics teams. This time, they invited FTC teams 15171 Scorpio, 21239 All Systems Go, 23997 Catalyst, 22650 BishBot, 23251 Triple Fault, 9367 Torrey Tech Titans, and 3650 Torrey Techies to compete against each other.
The event consisted of games of two alliances composed of two teams attempting to move hexagonal pieces to certain parts of the map. Certain areas would give more points than others such as marked areas on the floor versus a vertical board. After a fierce contest between the teams, Team 23251 Triple Fault and 15171 Scorpio took the victory.
The Outreach department focuses on holding events to help and benefit the community. Through this event they gave the opportunity for teams to optimize their robot and meet other FTC teams. Although this event was unofficial, they hope to hold an official competition soon.
