In the midst of this pandemic, the California Interscholastic Federation has announced that there will be a modified season of sport schedule. The CIF has also mentioned that they are monitoring the guidelines presented by the Governor’s Office and the California Department of Public Health regarding student health and safety. Being forced to adhere to state and governor guidelines, the CIF will have to adjust their season plans more in the future, depending on how the situation turns out. As of now, here is what they have stated:
“Fall sports, such as water polo and football, will have their start dates pushed back until December or January of next year. Their last days for potential playoff games range from mid-March to mid-April.”

If all goes according to plan and fall sports begin on time, then it is estimated that spring sports will begin in April of 2021. Spring sports have been expanded to include winter sports like basketball and soccer. Their indefinite deadlines for playoff games range from late-May to mid-June.
One final note is that all regional/state championships have been minimized to a maximum of a one-week duration for all sports. With everything up in the air right now, it’s not unlikely that things will continue to change for high school sports leading up to their respective seasons.
